Olympics in China 2008:

The year 2008, will be a very exciting time for China as they will be hosting the Summer Olympic games.

Business people from around the world are excited about this event and many are planning their first business trips to China around this time.

This time may not be the best time for business people to take their first trip as the area will be extremely busy and most hotels will be expensive and booked early.

Questions about the Olympics:

1. Where and when will the games be?

The games run between August 8, 2008 and August 25 and tickets went on sale at the start of 2007. 

About 31 venues will be used in Beijing for the Olympics while an additional six cities (Hong Kong, Qunhuangdao, Shanghai, Shenyang, Tianjin, Qingdao) will be used for the equestrian, football and Sailing preliminaries.

2. How can I buy tickets to the events?

The games run between August 8 and 24 and tickets went on sale at the start of 2007. Many tickets are reserved for China but you can contact your local travel agent or Canadian Olympics committee for more details on tickets for now.

3. Where would I stay in Beijing?

There are many ranges of hotels available in Beijing. Some nice ones include the Beijing Century Hotel, the Hilton and the Beijing Hotel. There are also youth hostels, Inns, beds and breakfast and of course many locals are opening their homes up to foreign visitors as well.

  4. Where will the sporting events be?
About half of the venues will be at the Olympic Green. This  is located at the north end of the central part of Beijing City. A forest park, a central area including competition venues, Olympic Village, the Main Press Center (MPC), and the International Broadcasting Center (IBC) and so on for Olympic Games can be found at Olympic Green. There will be several subway stations to connect the Olympic Green and the downtown area. 

 The modern stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies and will be the stage for both national and international sporting events, as well as cultural and entertainment activities after the Olympics.


 
 5. Can I use the Internet or my cell phone there?

There are Internet cafes all over china and you can use some cellphones. In China, the GSM network only has two frequencies, 900HZ and 1800HZ      CDMA is not common in China .

 6.  How can I drive in China?
 You need a Chinese driving license to drive in China. You can use the subway, bus, taxi and light rail to arrive at Olympic Green and other venues during the Olympics.
